Collaborative Design

The Covid 19 pandemic hit and as a Corporate Wear Designer, the demand for my skills took a dive! Airlines were grounded and bank employees were working from home in their PJ's!

I was never one to sit on my laurels so I signed up for a course in Social Media management and at the same time started to work with a small manufacturing unit to design a collection of ladies workwear, garments for women in trades.

Then I realised it was time to niche down and help bridge the gap in the market for products/garments that are not plentiful or in this case poor fitting and undesirable.

Working remotely and getting the job done was no problem. We were communicating with fabric mills in Pakistan, manufacturers in the Far East and the teams were scattered all over Europe. It worked a treat!

We created a brand logo based on the research, then launched a social media campaign. We gained followers from women in trades across the globe and undertook trials of the garment styles with them and came up with a collection and over 600 genuine followers before a garment was out the factory gates!

This is when I realised that my skills in design and development of products with brands in conjunction with co-designing with actual target customers was going to be a success

I knew that what I could offer was a collaborative style of design that you don’t learn in fashion courses, you get it from years working with wearer groups and getting to know your customer intimately.

Have you ever thought of how much stronger your brand will be to launch to market if you already have pre-sales of your garment?

And...that taking this very path others can also launch a brand using the skills I am going to teach!

My on-line bootcamp course starts in June and if you would like to take part in my first 5-Day Your Brand is Born Bootcamp you can register your interest here and get on the waitlist:
