You Don’t Need to be able to illustrate to be a Fashion Designer!

When I was a fashion student all my work was done by hand, no Adobe illustrator, no Canva. Just good old pencil, markers and paint! Learning CAD became my obsession, progressing from the sketch book to the screen was such a time saver. This was especially relevant when working on Corporatewear and uniform designs as I could change colours on garments at the touch of a button, not resketch everything from scratch of there was a request to change something.

I won a scholarship to work in Nottingham with Winifred Aldridge, the infamous pattern guru who has written numerous technical books on the subject. Three glorious weeks of learning I’ll never forget. My introduction to CAD, I never looked back.

Hasn’t technology taken massive leaps and bounds! You don’t have to be fantastic at illustration to be a fashion designer. In fact having practical skills was my strength and learning Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator just helped me put my ideas into presentation format to enhance the skills I already had.

Did you know that just having one great idea for a garment can start up a business? Your strength is finding that idea and you don’t have to have all the skills of a trained fashion designer.

That’s where I come in, now you can use my knowledge, experience, and strengths to help you take it from idea to production.
